Choosing a Marine Air Conditioning System

A marine air conditioning system is used to cool and freshen the air in a ship or boat. These systems can be a good investment for many boat owners. They can last for years before exhibiting signs of wear and tear. However, it is important to maintain them and perform tune-ups on a regular basis.Air conditioners are usually located in the engine room or in the living area. The units come in a variety of sizes. To determine the right size, you will need to consider the cabin's dimensions, the number of people occupying the boat, and the load factor.
There are two main types of marine air conditioners. One is the Direct Expansion System, and the other is the chilled water system. Both use the same basic mechanism. The chilled water system uses a piping loop to pump water from the engine room to the air handlers. This system is suitable for large vessels. Unlike the direct expansion system, there are no restrictions on the number of handlers. For boats of 80 feet or less, a self-contained marine air conditioner is an excellent choice. These units can be stored under bunks or ducted out to two rooms. They are inexpensive and are fueled by refrigerant.
Central condensing units are more expensive to install, but they are quieter. Larger boats often have a central unit. In addition, they do not require as much space as a self-contained unit. When choosing an air conditioner, you should ask the manufacturer for recommendations. You should also measure the area of the room to be cooled.
